Kids Radio

Way to go Paul Rubenstein I love the guitar and basic electronics and children working on machines to make true sounds. Paul volunteers at an after-school program in New York called Working Playground and teaches genius little ragamuffins how to design, construct, and shred their own guit-boxes. I love the basic pragmatic impulse of certain somebodys to combine the things they love into a voltron of magic that treads into new territory.

Listen to the radio show they made after the construction was completed... KID RADIO
A couple of sincerely righteous drones mixed with some nostalgic beginners sounds that really flew out of my speakers, clutched their waves around my neck, and wailed.

I got too excited and can no longer construct sentences so listen to the music and also there's a video...YEAH

Blast Off Country Style

WATCH OUT I AM COMING TOWARDS YOU WITH AN UNSTOPPABLE QUICKNESS!!!
Work is crazy today but I wanted to blast off this communique before bangin' bharta all day on some boxes in the basement. David Copperfuck and the magic band are going down to L.A. this weekend for some GOOD SHOWS. We're going with our good friends Pterodactyl from Brooklyn. I've been sitting on this Pterodactyl MP3 for some time trying to think of an accurate and meaningful lens/blowhole through which to project my throbbing adulation but the time is upon us and it's just time to DROP IT and stop editorializing.

Pterodactyl- Polio (rough mix)

We at True Panther are eagerly awaiting the day (it may never come) that these guys let us put out their record but I guess they are sitting on it until David Geffen or Steve Albini comes and gives them the ole Freemason's Handshake

Also, it looks like I'm going to be on tour with DiDi Mau across the country September-October. Give me a couple of days for cities and more info but it's going to be bigtime with art shows and installations, multiple day Chicago, NYC, and Boston visitation. Following that I might go with a case down to L.A. for the 3 months. This is my personal diary and I have a cru(n)ch on Napoleon. See you in L.A.!

Patois Party

Is this what happened to Snow?
---------------------------------------------------

RESEARCHERS are hoping that a woman who woke up after a stroke to find her Geordie accent sounding like Jamaican patois could shed some light on “foreign accent syndrome”.
Lynda Walker, 60, shows the symptoms of a rare affliction that leaves sufferers with a different accent. Although Ms Walker lived in Canada for a spell, she returned to the North East, where she grew up, and never lost her strong Geordie twang. But when she regained consciousness after a stroke in March last year, she spoke with a different accent.

Most people believe that she sounds Jamaican. Ms Walker said: “I got very down about it at first. It was so strange because you do not feel like the same person. I didn’t realise what I sounded like but then my speech therapist played a tape of me talking. I was just devastated.”

Researchers at Newcastle University are using Ms Walker as a case study for the syndrome. There have been only 50 documented cases over the past 65 years. The syndrome was identified in 1941 after a Norwegian woman, who suffered a shrapnel injury to her brain, began speaking with a strong German accent. It led to her being ostracised.

Research suggests that a tiny part of the brain that affects speech has been damaged. It can result in altered pitch, lengthened syllables or mispronunciation, changing the speaker’s accent. “It is like losing a big part of your identity,” Ms Walker said. “Everyone asks where I am from and if I say Westerhope, in Newcastle, they just laugh. They think I am lying. The worst thing is not having control over your own accent. I want my voice back but I don’t think that will ever happen.”

POST-SCRIPT A cursory glance over Snow's Wikipedia profile suggests that he is related to Stephen Page of the Barenaked Ladies, a certified member of the tribe Does this then mean that Snow is also Jewish and thereby an unheralded stop on the Beastie Boys/Mitiyahu zion cart? Jess askin'.

True Age

Ever since these visitors brought Yanni's first album Optimystique into my life things have been a little different and more open. New worlds of music that I once laughed at have worked their way into my ear lobes. I have yet to explode the fullness of his catalog but I am pretty convinced that this first solo, bravely exploring, optimstic Yanni is the one and only one that can reach his firm greek hand out to anyone in my peer group. Before the middle-age mastercard orchestral maneuvers it was just Yanni with his synthesizer making it happen (see previous posts for elaborations on my predilection for the 1-man-band)

Did you know that Yanni was once a competitive swimmer in Greece? Oh wait, actually nevermind did you know that Yanni survived the crashing of the cruise ship he was on-board entertaining for in the Gulf of Alaska??? Also, did you know that he toiled away at his sound for over 8 years while it was distinctly noncommerical? I will not champion New Age music but I will gladly suggest that True Age moments of peace and tranquility are most sincere and compelling after periods of reflection and turmoil. I will also bet that this man and his helicopter friends like CHOPPER BLACK have more than a couple of notches on their walking sticks. "Not totally shallow" is basically what I'm saying. He will give you what you want if you let him.

Yanni- The Sphynx
Yanni- The Magus
Yanni- Twilight

Although some may take offense, I occasionally classify Iasos in the same general memory bank as a visionary spiritual musicmaker whose ideas and name have been besmirched by failed commercial aspirations and the shifting of cultural trends. His first album was recently re-released unfortunately not by Shinkoyo but it's still worth taking a look at... EM Records

So far this friday has been the best and I guess this is a roundabout way of sending a little cybersignal to hope yours is too. OLDIES NIGHT TONIGHT Also, there will be an opening in the True Panther household here in sunny San Francisco starting August so feel free to let any of your kind friends in on the news.

A Masterpiece in the Making

Yep, it's Friday and I'm just here in my cabin just chopping a piece of wood for the fire. WOWOWOWOWOWOW here's a helicopter and there's ninjas coming out of the helicopter on a rope! They've got swords but WHAT? they're using the swords to cut a piece of cake? For me? A piece of cake for me? Really? well, ok wow this is delicious. Hey why don't you come here and sit around my fire, I'm just going to chop some more wood and I'll be right back. Hi here I am are you enjoying yourselves? You brought your ipods? OK! Great let's just plug these eyepods into the fire and it'll make a giant speaker yeah you can really hear that thing now. I just got this shipment of leather pants, let's try them on and play around with the crossbow. Wow guys you're really good at jumping off of that jumping rock. It's cool that the shogun let you have vacation this early in the summer, I really LOVE it when you guys come over.
