"For African Family Laptop Musick, I was healing from a traumatic head injury that gave me a later amnesia diagnosis, so I don’t remember more than a couple small flashes of memory from the recording/construction of this project. I know I wanted to make a low-fidelity concept piece about my family life at the time, compositionally simple, but necessarily abstracted. This is the last lil offering from a very personal side of myself before I give y’all something big. Enjoy.”

Dawuna is a Virginia-raised, Baltimore-based Ugandan-American artist and producer.
After Dawuna, born Ian Mugerwa, leaked his masterpiece Glass Lit Dream on Bandcamp, his career took off, elevating him to the status of an art-world, alt-R&B darling. The album won significant critical acclaim, and residencies, tours across Europe, and invitations to write for pop stars followed. But at the end of 2023, Mugerwa suffered massive health issues that brought his momentum to a screeching halt.
